Info for New Ordeal Candidates

oaSash Ordeal

Congratulations on becoming a candidate for the Order of the Arrow and getting called out! Being selected by your peers as one who truly lives up to the Scout Oath and Law, is a great honor. Many opportunities await you, and Wenasa Quenhotan Lodge looks forward to having you as a new brother.

The next step in order to become a member of the OA is to go through your Ordeal at either the Fall or Spring Conclave weekend.

Fall Conclave will be taking place September 21-23, 2012, at Ingersoll Scout Reservation. Information will be mailed in August to all Ordeal candidates regarding registration. Those candidates who cannot make Fall Conclave will have another opportunity to go through their Ordeal at Spring Conclave in May.

Preparing for your Ordeal

Recommended Packing List:

  • Tent (you will only use this on Sat. night)
  • Tarp (for Friday night)
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Flashlight w/ extra batteries
  • Insect Repellent
  • Work Clothes (wear these out to camp)
  • Shower Supplies (you'll definitely want them!)
  • Money (if you want to buy anything from the OA Trading Post)

Check-in will begin at 6:00pm. If you pre-registered, you will be checked-in at the front gate and receive your event patch. Otherwise, all registration will be at the Dining Hall. All parking will be in the main parking lot - do not drive up to the Dining Hall.

Once you are checked-in, you may set up your tent in the Family Campsite behind the main parking lot. Note: you will be sleeping under the stars with a tarp on Friday. However, it is a better idea to set your tent up on Friday because it will be dark after the ceremony on Saturday. Please bring a name stake to put in front of your tent, in case there is an emergency. After your camping area is set up, there will be other activities taking place in the Dining Hall.

At 8:30pm, the Pre-Ordeal Ceremony will take place. All Ordeal Candidates MUST be at Trailblazer Pavillion (bottom of the hill) by 8:00pm! You will not be returning to your tent that evening, so make sure that you bring all of your overnight supplies with you - this includes your tarp, sleeping bag, and any other items you will need during the work projects on Saturday. It is recommended to wear your work clothes on Friday night for the next day. You will not need any electronic items, including cell phones.

Your Ordeal experience will begin on Friday night and conclude on Saturday night. After the ceremony there will be a cracker barrel in the Dining Hall. On Sunday Morning after breakfast, there is an important meeting for all new Ordeal Members that we strongly encourage you to attend. Following this meeting will be a prayer service, cleanup, and then dismissal by around 10:00am
